Dr. Ian Reight - Surgical Care at MaineGeneral Medical Center
Ian Reight, MD, is an Augusta surgeon who provides medical services at MaineGeneral Medical Center. He has engaged as medical director, surgical quality, and directed departments such as hyperbarics and wound care and the Breast Center. Dr. Ian Reight also chaired the Department of Surgery from 2016 to 2020 and served as medical staff president. Knowledgeable on technological developments, he guides the hospital’s Robotic Steering Committee and consults with Intuitive Surgical as proctor for robotic surgery.
A graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park, Dr. Reight earned his BS in psychology with neuropsychology and pharmacology concentrations. He completed his medical qualifications at the Medical University of the Americas in Nevis in the West Indies. Fluent in Spanish, he provided evidence-based surgery to the local population and collaborated with pre-hospital providers.
Dr. Reight’s research background includes work for the National Institutes of Health in the behavioral endocrinology sphere. He performed radio-immunoassays and employed neuropsychological exams in undertaking polymerase chain reaction (PCR) genetic evaluations of patients. Dr. Ian Reight also has extensive volunteer paramedic and firefighter experience and was medical director with the Auburn Fire Department’s emergency medical services for four years.
